Changes in public transport to Korkeasaari Zoo – local bus 16 service ends after 9 August
default
HSL local bus 16, which operates between Central Railway Station and Mustikkamaa, will cease service after Sunday, 9 August 2026. HSL aims to begin tram operations across the Crown Bridges (Kruunusillat) later in 2026, providing a direct tram connection to the entrance of Korkeasaari Zoo. For the time being, the nearest public transport stop is the Nihti terminus of Tram Line 13, located approximately a 5-minute walk from the zoo entrance.
Getting to Korkeasaari Zoo by public transport:
By Metro & on Foot
From Kalasatama Metro Station, it is about a 20-minute walk (1.5 km) to the entrance to Korkeasaari Zoo via Isoisänsilta bridge, Mustikkamaa island and Korkeasaari bridge, or via Sompasaari and Finkensilta bridge. The route via Finkensilta bridge is easy to follow by keeping an eye out for the tram tracks and the green turtle signposts.
By Train & Tram
Visitors arriving by train can take Tram Line 13 from Pasila Station to Nihti. The journey takes approximately 20 minutes, with trams running every 12 minutes. From the terminus, it is about a 5-minute walk (500 m) across Finkensilta Bridge to the zoo entrance.
By Metro & Tram
Tram Line 13 stops at Kalasatama Metro Station and continues to Nihti. The journey from Kalasatama to Nihti takes approximately 5 minutes. From the tram terminus, it is around a 5-minute walk (500 m) across Finkensilta Bridge to the entrance of Korkeasaari Zoo.
HSL aims to launch tram services across the bridges later in 2026. Once tram operations begin, visitors will be able to travel directly to the zoo entrance from both Laajasalo and Rautatientori via Hakaniemi.
By City Bike, Bicycle, on Foot or by Car
The Kruunusillat (Crown Bridges) route connecting Korkeasaari with Laajasalo and Hakaniemi via Nihti is open for pedestrians and cyclists. From Merihaka, it is just over 1 kilometre to the Korkeasaari Zoo ticket office via pedestrian and cycling routes. From Rautatientori, the distance is approximately 3 kilometres. The new route passes via Merihaansilta Bridge, Nihti and Finkensilta Bridge. Please note that this route may not yet appear in Google Maps.
There is a city bike station directly outside the Korkeasaari Zoo entrance, as well as several secure bicycle racks.
If you are arriving by car, construction work at the Mustikkamaa Sports Park has reduced the number of parking spaces available in Mustikkamaa compared to previous years. We recommend parking in the Redi Shopping Centre parking garage.
