Arriving to the zoo

Korkeasaari Zoo is located on an island close to the Helsinki city center. Three bridges connect the island to the mainland: from Mustikkamaa, Nihti, and Laajasalo, so you can visit the zoo all year round.

Tram lines

From Pasila or Kalasatama

The journey from Pasila to Korkeasaari takes approximately 25 minutes in total. Along the route, you can also board the tram, for example, at Kalasatama near the Redi shopping centre.

Tram line 13 operates between Ilmala–Kalasatama–Nihti, with Nihti being the stop closest to Korkeasaari. From the stop, it is approximately a 500-metre walk to the zoo entrance.

From 7 November 2026, you can also take the tram directly to the entrance of the zoo, at Korkeasaari’s own tram stop! Tram line 11, which starts operating on that date, runs between Pasila–Kalasatama–Korkeasaari–Kruunuvuorenranta.

From City Centre or Hakaniemi

From 7 November 2026, tram line 12 operates between Rautatientori–Hakaniemi–Korkeasaari–Yliskylä. You can take the tram directly to the entrance of the zoo, at Korkeasaari’s own tram stop!

Metro

The metro station closest to Korkeasaari is Kalasatama, located in the Redi shopping centre. From Kalasatama Metro Station, it is approximately a 1.2-kilometre walk to the Korkeasaari Zoo entrance, but you can also board a tram nearby.

PLEASE NOTE! Kalasatama Metro Station will be closed from 26 April to 15 December 2027. During the metro disruption, metro services will operate as far as Hakaniemi from the west and as far as Herttoniemi from the east.

Cycle to the zoo

All bridges leading to the zoo island have bicycle lanes. There is a bicycle rack opposite the zoo entrance building, as well as an HSL city bike station during the summer.

Visitors are not allowed to ride bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, or scooters around the zoo. For kids under seven years old, kick scooters and bikes are allowed, except for special events.

Buying travel tickets

Please note that travel tickets are not sold at Korkeasaari Zoo. The easiest way to buy a ticket is with the HSL mobile app or directly on board the vehicle using contactless payment with a bank card.

Buses no longer operate to Korkeasaari

Please note that HSL discontinued bus line 16 to Korkeasaari as of 10 August 2026. The nearest bus stops for other bus lines are located in Kalasatama and Kulosaari.

Planning to arrive by car?

Korkeasaari does not have its own parking area. The most convenient way to get to the zoo is by public transport.

If you are arriving to by car, we recommend heading to the parking garage at the Redi shopping centre, which has approximately 2,000 parking spaces. Parking in the garage is subject to a fee. For current parking rates and detailed driving instructions, please visit Redi’s website.

There is a small car park also on Mustikkamaa, operated by the City of Helsinki. The car park fills up quickly, especially in summer. Parking on this lot has time limits and some of the parking spaces are subject to a fee.
