Turkoosipikkugekko

Turquoise dwarf gecko

Lygodactylus williamsi

Turquoise dwarf geckos only live in in the leaf crowns of a certain screwpine species and only in an area covering a few square kilometres in Tanzania. The illegal pet trade and loss of habitat are the greatest threats to the species. Only the male gecko is turquoise, the female is green or brown.

This species and the individuals living in Korkeasaari Zoo are part of an ESB stud book by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria EAZA. The aim of the ESB is to maintain a healthy zoo population of the species.
