
Sun beetle
Pachnoda marginata
The sun beetle spends the first three months of its life as a caterpillar in the ground, devouring decomposing plants. When the caterpillar reaches four centimetres, it cocoons for pupation. It hatches after a month as a fully-grown and colourful beetle that lives for 5–7 months.
