Plumed basilisk
Basiliscus plumifrons
Basilisks like to spend time on tree branches and are rarely seen on the ground. They are good runners and swimmers upon escape. Basilisks are able to run on the surface of water, for which reason they are referred to as Jesus lizards in some languages. The male plumed basilisk has a sail-like dorsal crest and a two-part crest, or ‘helmet’, on its head.
