Green poison arrow frog
Dendrobates auratus
The green poison arrow frog is a diurnal frog that lives on the rainforest floor. During the mating season, the male calls the female to lay eggs in a favourable location on the ground among leaves. There are usually 6–10 eggs. The male sees to it that the eggs stay moist. Once the eggs have hatched, the male carries the tadpoles on his back into a water-filled hole in a tree. The tadpoles eat small invertebrates and plants. In the wild, adult frogs mainly eat ants and beetles.
