Dumeril’s boa
Acrantophis dumerili
The Dumeril’s boa is a grounddwelling, mostly nocturnal snake found in Madagascar. Its mottled pattern forms a good camouflage against the forest floor. After a gestation period of just over six months, the female gives birth to young that are 30–40 centimetres long. The species has adapted to changes in its habitat better than many of its relatives.
The boa living at Korkeasaari Zoo are victims of the illegal pet trade. It was confiscated by the customs authorities and placed to Korkeasaari Zoo.
