Anthony’s poison arrow frog
Epipedobates anthonyi
The patterns and colours of the tiny Anthony’s poison arrow frog vary from individual to individual. The species lives in the vicinity of streams and is threatened by biocides and the deterioration of their environment.
Anthony’s poison arrow frog is not particularly poisonous when compared to many of its relatives, but it tricks predators into thinking it is with its bright colours. The chemical it secretes from its skin, epibatidine, is a pain killer 200 times more potent than morphine.
