Korkeasaari Zoo as an excursion destination
In Finland’s largest zoo, pupils can learn about the diversity of the animal kingdom and the importance of nature conservation in an inspiring way. Korkeasaari Zoo is home to animals from almost every part of the globe, and different habitats are well represented in the zoo – not to mention plants.
A trip to Korkeasaari Zoo is an educational experience that inspires students to think about nature and its future in a new way. The zoo is run by a non-profit foundation, so every visit supports not only the students’ own learning, but also Korkeasaari Zoo’s work to protect endangered species and biodiversity.
Although Korkeasaari Zoo is a traditional field trip destination in April and May, it’s worth a visit outside the busiest school season – we’re open all year round! You must apply for an approved field trip using the form on this page at least two weeks before your visit to get special group prices. To avoid traffic, only a limited number of classes will be admitted to the zoo at any one time.
To support your group’s visit, you will also find on this page self-study materials designed by our environmental educators to support the objectives of the national curriculum. Indeed, Korkeasaari Zoo is involved in both national and international environmental education networks. Check out our guided tours for school children, which will help you deepen your knowledge and dive into the world of wildlife!
Tickets for pre-arranged school groups
The free (October to April) or discounted (May to August) field trips are available to Finnish school groups (compulsory basic education classes 1-9, and upper secondary school science teaching groups) who have applied in advance and have been accepted for the trip, regardless of their municipality of residence.
The school group prices are not applicable to adult students, vocational schools, school clubs or other leisure activities organised by schools, or to groups from abroad. For school groups outside of Finland, please contact our regular group sales for group prices!
Applications cannot be made on a school-basis, but must be made by the class teacher for their class. A maximum of 40 people (including teachers and pupils) can be registered in one application.
Payment is made as a one-time payment, e.g. by card or invoice. For billing purposes, we need the payer’s VAT number and billing address before the visit. We do not invoice individuals, or for example parents’ associations that do not have a company ID. A billing fee will be added to.
Group supervisors
Group supervisors are expected to actively monitor the students and intervene in any cases of misbehaviour: they are responsible for ensuring that the class behaves in a safe and compliant manner at Korkeasaari Zoo.
Go through the zoo’s rules of order carefully with your students before visiting the zoo!
