Nature School Arkki

In a nature school day, schoolchildren learn about animal species and their habitats and about nature conservation under the guidance of a nature school teacher. At the moment, the nature school only offers lessons in Finnish.

Certified nature school activities

Nature School Arkki is part of the The Finnish Association of Nature and Environment Schools (LYKE) network. We are certified at the highest level of the association, as a development center. Regular peer audits ensure that the certification criteria are met. In addition, Korkeasaari is a member of the International Zoo Educators Association (IZE).

Environmental education is one of Korkeasaari Zoo’s most important tasks and the teaching at the Nature School Arkki supports the Finnish curriculum. We welcome Finnish primary school groups that have registered for lessons in advance, for whom the education at the nature school is free of charge. The programme includes a guided part, independent group work and a lunch break.

At the moment, Nature School Arkki only offers lessons in Finnish, so you can find more information about the Nature School and its lessons on our Finnish website. From time to time, we also organise courses for educators in Finnish.
