Traineeships and internships

Animal care traineeship

In the spring and autumn, animal care students can undertake a traineeship at Korkeasaari Zoo as zookeepers. The traineeship requires a driving licence for a car (B) or tractor (T) and at least a basic knowledge of Finnish – more detailed information about positions and applying is on our Finnish website’s traineeship page. There are a limited number of traineeship positions available.

Office roles and other internships

Occasionally, we may take on university students (e.g. biology students) as interns in our animal care and conservation office team. The office work includes, for example, various tasks related to conservation projects and the development of zoo animal welfare. The internship can also be conducted in English.

There are a limited number of internships available. Internships are always considered on a case-by-case basis. For open internship applications, please send an application with your resumee to zoo.rekrytointi@korkeasaari.fi.

We also offer interesting traineeship and internship opportunities for students in marketing, environmental education and property management where possible.

Korkeasaari Zoo as a workplace

The zoo is run by the non-profit Korkeasaari Zoo Foundation, with a mission to protect endangered species and biodiversity. The foundation consists of four functions: Administration, Animal Care and Conservation, Marketing and Customer service, and Property and Environmental Management.

Korkeasaari Zoo is part of the Helsinki City Group, and the City of Helsinki supports the activities of the foundation. The Foundation is involved in many international conservation projects, and the results of our work extend beyond Finland’s borders.

The zoo attracts around half a million visitors every year, and we encourage them to learn about biodiversity and to join us in protecting it. Our aim is for our visitors to enjoy the zoo and at the same time understand their role in nature and its conservation.

We want to be the best place to work in Finland, with the best experts in our field. Our aim is to be a diverse, equal and equal working community. We offer our employees training opportunities at Korkeasaari Zoo, in Finland, and abroad.

We apply the principles of equality in recruitment, job allocation, salaries and all zoo activities. We monitor job satisfaction and equality through regular surveys.
